Service Description

✨ Sashiko 刺し子 at Cha-Ami Japanese Cultural Center Discover the Beauty of Sashiko: Traditional Japanese Stitching Art At Cha-Ami Japanese Cultural Center, we are proud to offer workshops and gatherings that celebrate Sashiko, a traditional Japanese hand-stitching technique that is as meditative as it is beautiful. Sashiko, which means “little stabs,” began as a practical way to repair and reinforce fabric, especially among Japanese farmers and workers. Over time, this functional stitching evolved into a highly respected folk art, known for its repeating patterns and striking white thread on indigo cloth. What You’ll Experience Whether you're brand new to stitching or a seasoned crafter, our Sashiko gatherings offer a welcoming space to: Learn the history and cultural significance of Sashiko Practice basic techniques and traditional patterns Create your own Sashiko sampler or patchwork project Connect with others through slow, mindful making Our classes are relaxed and beginner-friendly — no previous sewing experience is needed! Why We Love Sashiko Sashiko is more than a technique — it’s a way to slow down, be present, and appreciate the beauty in simplicity and imperfection. It reflects values we hold dear at Cha-Ami: care, community, and creativity. Come join us and let your hands tell a story through thread.
